Here at Peer St., we cherish each other's uniqueness. Each member has experiences, life lessons, and a path with bends, peaks, and troughs to look back on. We look forward to placing a few pavers alongside you.
It’s hard to know where to start with these things. I think it can be natural to come out swinging, list your professional experience and try to persuade the reader that you know what you’re talking about.
For me, I don’t want to persuade people to work with me; I want it to be their choice, purely based on 1 or several authentic interactions we have, and hopefully continue to have. I certainly don’t know what I’m doing most of the time, but I have mapped much of my past in a way that I hope can be useful to anyone I spend time with.
We may cross paths at a difficult point in your life. It’s times like these, in my view, that you need genuine people around you with considerable lived experience. I don’t see it as my job to consistently sit in your suffering with you, but rather offer a branch so ‘you’ can pull yourself out. And I’ll admit, oftentimes it may not even be a branch; maybe you’ll find that yourself.
What I have to offer, most of all, is someone who can take care of so many other things that perhaps don’t directly relate to your mental health but will undoubtedly benefit it if executed well and to sufficiently high standards.
Sometimes the help we need isn’t someone buying into our downward spiral; it’s someone helping us regulate by association, who will stand by us, defiantly defending us from our surroundings while we recover.
